spring on its way!

These appeared to be coming up first. Mom and I can't quite remember what they're called. We planted them back in October-ish (I think). They will be white and are "carpan"-something. Sadly, the popsicle stick we wrote the name on wore off...

Johnny Jump Up!!

Some tulips I found that are growing from under a rock!

More tulips! These we have decided are some of our established tulips, not of the bulbs we planted in the autumn. Very exciting, though, as I did not see these even two days before this. Flowers are so sneaky!

state flower

I hope My Pretties (see tag) will be this lovely this summer. I can tell they are itching to get out of the pots I have them in in the house and outside in the sun. But, not yet. In the front garden today, I discovered a Johnny Jump Up (aka Viola tricolor)! I also found some tulips coming up!!! I'll have to post those spring-is-on-its-way photos tomorrow...

Sometimes I get so tired

Just trying to find a place

To lay my head

I look up to the sky

I feel the warmest light comfort me...

Lovely day (off) yesterday

I love when the sun is bright and hitting the flatirons in such a way as to cause deep shadows, which makes them look more rugged and rocky. I can't wait 'til even warmer days so I can go hiking around here! Thursday evening we had a bunch of snow and by midday Friday, the new stuff (at least on the streets) had melted. Now that's the kind of snow I like! The melted kind.

On a random note... I just can't believe how much Norlin has changed! I had to return an ILL book I had checked out from there back at the end of last year and I guess I hadn't paid enough attention to see all the changes. I'll have to re-explore Norlin and the rest of the campus soon. I wonder if they've done anything to my beloved Hale?!

The sparkles at a closer view... click for full view. The light hitting the grass is pretty.
Occasionally I start to think I'm just taking the same photos (same subject, that is) over and over and over again - and, I am. However, I've decided that maybe that's not all bad, that it is helping me to see different things along the way, or see them in a different way. Because I go around the lake many times in a week, I am able to notice subtle changes in the environment and find the little details. Well, regardless, as long as I'm not bored of it (and I'm not), then I guess it is okay for now. :)

Red Rocks again

Morrison, Colorado

When I'm feeling really chilly in the midst of winter, I like to change my desktop wallpaper to that of deserts and super warm-looking settings.

I think, by the time I am thirty, I will no longer be complaining about heat, ever. I used to really dislike it, but now as each winter passes, the summer heat becomes more and more desirable. We'll see, maybe this summer will turn out to be ridiculously hot now that I've said that.

Cycles

Every so often I get exhausted thinking about the various cycles that make up life. Often it is the seasons. I start to think about how wonderful it is going to be when spring is here and then I think of how horrible it will be when winter is back again and how it always comes around and will never go away. On the weekends I am bothered by the time it gets to Sunday afternoon, that I have to go back to work on Monday (it always happens to me, why?! well, I suppose this isn't a good weekend example as I actually don't have work tomorrow). It seems like a never-ending cycle of work, weekend, work, weekend, work, weekend.... I don't want to continually get depressed every weekend because I have work coming up again, nor do I want to spoil spring/summer/fall because I see winter looming. How do we break up those cycles? When it gets really bad, I begin to think of life as made up of all these cycles and I think, "Is this all there is? These cycles that will go on for years and years and years?" Life seems really tiring if you think of it like that. It's like those times when you start to get annoyed that you have to go to the bathroom or shower or figure something out to eat yet again and you think "Why do I have to use my time going to the bathroom so often?!" No? That's just me that thinks that? Oh.... :P

Good Bark

In my pottery class I am making a birdbath with the outer bit looking like bark. To get this look I tried various things but eventually just found myself outside the studio smashing my clay up against a tree... who knew getting a good bark texture could be so difficult otherwise? Now I can better appreciate good bark.

oh, happy fridays off!

I know I have looked into what kind of plant (flower?) this is but now I cannot remember. My memory fails me often these days. Oh well!

the light

From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
